Note from the Editor: Carolyn is a member of the cohort of teenagers and music fans from Spring Grove, Illinois, who first found me after I wrote about The Orwells. An aspiring photographer and current high school student, Carolyn’s photos are striking in their documentation of her life in her farm town about an hour north of Chicago, near the Wisconsin border. From Spring Grove to Chicago, Carolyn documents what it’s like to be growing up today in the American Midwest. Her photos of decaying suburban houses, friends, farm fields, the city, and compelling self-portraits are snapshots of what it means to be young and alive at this time in the American century.
