This is getting old.

MODERATOR

Thank you, Senators, for joining us today and for being willing to offer your wisdom and perspective regarding several issues of importance to the American people. Let’s get right to it. The first question is: Should the United States be doing more to aid Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia? Senator Feinstein?

FEINSTEIN

Are there too many cranes in America? Is that what you’re asking? No. You can never have too many birds. Birds are beautiful.

Next question: Did the Supreme Court overreach when it overturned Roe v. Wade and effectively outlawed abortion? Senator McConnell, we’ll hear from you first this time.

McCONNELL

FEINSTEIN

I disagree.

MODERATOR

On a somewhat related note, there has been a movement of late among Conservatives to instill a distinctly Christian sensibility into American life. What are your thoughts on religion vis-à-vis government?

FEINSTEIN

I am Jewish, I think.

McCONNELL

Soap.

MODERATOR

Moving on: There has been a mass shooting somewhere in the United States nearly every week for the past few years. Why is Congress seemingly doing nothing to advance gun control?

McCONNELL

We have a Second Amendment to the Constitution. We take it seriously. There’s the right to keep and bear arms in this country. And so what I’ve done is encourage some bipartisan discussions that are going on.

FEINSTEIN

I think I might have some gum in my pocketbook.

MODERATOR

And, finally, a question more on the minds of Americans than ever before: Should there be a mandatory retirement age for elected officials?

FEINSTEIN

McCONNELL

I agree with the distinguished gentlewoman from California.
