Grabbing a Bull by it’s Horns: Self Management
Throughout all of research into the soft skill of emotional intelligence I have discovered that they most important aspect in achieving proficiency in this skill is to have the highest level of control over yourself and your actions. Some people allow their emotions to completely control their lives; feeding into impulses and illogical thinking. Self-management is an imperative skill in achieving emotional intelligence.
16 Habits of Self-Managing People:
- enact a set of morals and stand by them
- build a trusting relationship with yourself
- accept your mistakes and learn from them
- stand by your opinions, even when most disagree
- listen to apposing perspectives and try to understand them
- be a person of your word
- hold yourself accountable
- stay organized and complete tasks with due diligence
- be adaptable to change (do not get stuck in a rut)
- learn how to read your surrounding environment
- set challenging goals for yourself
- keep track of your achievements and improvements
- utilize time management
- actively seek out more information about topics you are interested in
- keep ideas fresh and new
- be willing to take risks
In life we are never going to be able to control other people and how they act in situations. The only thing that we have complete control over is ourselves. Do not become a slave to your own emotions; instead, use your emotions in a productive manner and use them to propel you forward.
