It’s beautiful to not want to perish,
To be able to experience and relish,
To be able to recollect and cherish,
To not have to embellish,
To not need to justify being selfish,
To be you is your duty, don’t be foolish.

On a penetrating night breeze,
This effusive release finds its zenith,
As I descend from the Mountain of Loftiness to join the clouds of its perennial freeze,
I wonder if all the rain we dance to in our fields,
is just the Mountain having a typical sneeze…
Do we all, then, benefit from another’s disease?
In a similar vein, is there no purpose served by a leech?

Moments blow by as I make my way down through scree and trees,
As they do so, I question if I lived them or in their periphery.
Thoughts built on others only collapse onto themselves, perpetually,
Yet somehow an approximately 1.3kg organ doesn’t explode from such frenetic intensity…
Does the brain ever have to say sorry?

Wandering this planet above perception,
I eye the vastness of humanity’s collective anxiety and it strikes me to my foundation,
We are a giant drove of myriad bees, with no direction;
Like a death row nominee, hardly seeking accommodation,
In a bid to be more in tune with the variants around us, expecting absolution,
We revert to base instincts and the classic human scourge of corruption,
Then hide away from mirrors with handheld computers distracting the world from our transmissible inadequacy with captions…

To expect to be free of others’ gaze is a pipe dream,
But to truly be oneself, requires a different sort of scheme,
To have answers marked as ‘Correct’ under this regime,
Case-by-case, daily review of each challenge is mandatory.
Invariably,
Those that are on this team view things free of their distracting sheens,
They process things,
They listen actively,
They are their own kings and queens,
They rise above perception of trifles and smokescreens,
To touch the summit of personal improvement powered by an Intrinsic Motivation Engine (I.ME)…

Funny how I.ME,
Could simply be I AM ME,
And the idiocy of aspirational living,
Could be swept aside by words so free,
But who’s got time for that when hashtags pressure us to be?
When hyper cyber lust drives us to ask for nudes at 3?
When implicit disgust makes us mum when we cheat?
When explicit disgust makes men suggest they were born with a right to beat?
When tacit complicity in furthering insults is your regular beat?
When destroying reputations is what gives you your dopamine hit?
When exploitation still builds empires on the backs of those that now repeat the mistake of understanding its whiteness as peace?

Can you find an I.ME near you?
Sure!
At no cost payable in terms monetary,
The power to drive thee must emerge from within,
And for as long as others’ validation is what makes your traffic light go green,
You can count on continuing to suffer until death for having never truly lived,
And the acme of folly would be,
For me to remain floating above thee, I.ME puttering along mutedly,
And fail to leave this reminder that YOU CAN BE FREE,
If you will simply BE,

Above perception.

Yours in perpetuity,

Evans Campbell.
