Well, we have well and truly made it into the 2nd quarter of 2019, and I hope you’re kicking your financial goals for the year high up into the air! Financial media in Australia has been abuzz with talks of the upcoming Federal election and worrying about the potential changes to negative gearing and franking credits.

I don’t ever think it’s a good idea to solely base your investing strategy around a certain tax incentive, because the government can change the goalposts at anytime (and they often do)! Unfortunately for some who are relying on XYZ tax incentive, it may be a very challenging time if changes are made (and it’s a big if), but as young people in Australia who are getting started with investing, it’s important to ensure we aren’t relying solely on one method and that we’re diversifying our portfolio early on.

“Far more money has been lost by investors preparing for corrections, or trying to anticipate corrections than has been lost in corrections themselves.”

— Peter Lynch

This month on HTM we looked into the role risk plays in your investing journey. So think about yourself. Are you a risk seeker? Do you like thrill and excitement? Do you like rock climbing and skydiving? Does that come across your investment decisions? Maybe you don’t do anything wild, but you might take a whole lot more risk in your investments. It’s important to remember that everyone views and reacts risk differently.

Kate and Owen (from Rask Finance) published five new episodes on The Australian Finance Podcast this month, which are worth a listen if you haven’t checked them out yet!
