HTM October 2020 Wrap-Up

Dear How To Money Reader,

Congrats! You’ve made it through October, a pretty challenging month (from a Melbournian point of view).

I attended a really interesting last week on the future of work and building your personal reputation. Andrea (the guest presenter) pointed out that for many people, their next job isn’t going to come from a LinkedIn ad, rather from a personal recommendation by someone who knows you and your reputation to deliver. She also spoke about the importance of being able to tell people who you are, what you do and what your values are, without mentioning your job title.

People will remember you for your passion, your personal story and your values, rather than just remembering you as another (insert your own job title here). She also encouraged attendees to think about the conversation that people are having about them when they’re not in the room, and what they want that conversation to be over the next decade.

Building your industry reputation and trust doesn’t happen overnight, and it’s something you have to work on intentionally during your career. The final exercise Andrea left listeners with is, is to think deeply about what you want people saying about you in October 2021. Then come up with five actions you can take over the next 12 months, to shift your personal narrative to that point. I’ve included the link to the recording below if you’re interested in tuning in!
