“The app features a unique design for combining video clips, photos and music into great-looking videos to share with friends through the Messages app, or on Instagram, Facebook and other popular social networks.” Statement from Apple

Rather than trying to go head-to-head with social titans and create their own social network, Apple is releasing Clips, a video app to supplement the creation of sharable, media-rich content on existing platforms. But before you start comparing this app’s function to Snapchat or Instagram, you should know that Clips has a feature that’s going to change the video game on social platforms: Live Titles.

It’s become standard to quickly scroll past videos on your newsfeed that autoplay, especially if they aren’t muted, and until now creators have had to rely on different apps to edit and caption video before posting. Clips showcases the ability to create unique video to post on social media, with Live Titles delivering a hopeful new way to make shareable content more relevant and important to viewers.

Apple claims Clips’ Live Title feature can create perfectly timed subtitles, allows different fonts, formats, and special characters (hello, emojis!), and will support 36 languages right out of the gate. Anything but basic.

With the ability to use filters and stickers, press to record, edit and cut video, and the option of Live Titles, editing buttons are all over the screen. Users of Snapchat and Facebook/Instagram might be overwhelmed at first, and complain that the design isn’t streamlined or subtle like they’re used to- but that’s not the point. Apple is catering to everyone through Clips; everyone and their dad.

This tool will help take social connectivity to the next level. Facial recognition and suggested sharing will make it easier to push your videos to friends, and Live Titles will help you share your message with the world more quickly.

Apple is aiming to launch the App in April…get ready to see an influx of video on your social feeds.
