How To Clear Through Thousands of Unread Emails in Minutes

Your guide to clearing through those useless emails you’ve never even opened

Gmail

  1. Open and log into your Gmail account
  2. In the search bar at the top of your inbox, search “is: unread”. This will allow you to see all unread emails in your inbox
  3. In the top right corner, hover over the small box, it should say “Select”. Click it to select all the emails on that page
  4. A banner should display on the top of your inbox saying “All 50 messages on this page are selected”, along with blue clickable text that says “Select all messages that match this search”. Click it to select all of the unread emails in your inbox
  5. Now that everything is selected, using the controls on the top of your inbox, you can choose to “Delete” or “Mark as read”, depending on what you want to achieve
  6. Done! Enjoy your clean inbox!

Outlook

  1. Open and log into your Outlook account
  2. In the top left of your inbox, hover over the three stacked lines, it should say “Filter”. Click it to open a menu
  3. From the dropdown menu, select “Unread” to see all unread emails in your inbox
  4. Right next to where the Filter icon was, hover over the small box, it should say “Select”. Click it to open the option to select your emails
  5. Another small box will appear in the top left of your inbox. Hovering over it should say “Select all messages”. Click it to select all unread emails
  6. A menu will pop up in the center of your screen with several different options, including “Empty” or “Mark as read”, depending on what you want to achieve
  7. Done! Enjoy your clean inbox!
