Hitting a golf ball can be one of the most complex and difficult things to do in any sport. Just because the ball is stationary, does not mean it makes it easy. It takes focus, concentration, and repetition.

1. **Stance and Alignment:** Start by positioning your feet shoulder-width apart, parallel to the target line. Ensure your body is aligned with the target, promoting a straight and accurate shot. The distance of your feet apart may vary depending on the type of golf shot you are trying to hit, however majority of your shots will require feet shoulder length apart.

2. **Grip:** Hold the club with a relaxed yet firm grip. The V’s formed by your thumb and forefinger should point towards your trailing shoulder. Experiment with grip variations to find what feels most comfortable for you. As a righty player, your left hand should be at the top of the club, and your right hand should be underneath. A grip to try is locking your left index finger with your right pinky finger. This allows you to get a consistent and stable grip.

3. **Posture:** Maintain a balanced and athletic posture with a slight bend in the knees. Keep your back straight, and tilt forward from your hips. This sets the foundation for a powerful and controlled swing.

4. **Backswing:** Rotate your shoulders to initiate the backswing, allowing your hips to turn naturally. Keep your leading arm straight and maintain a smooth transition between the backswing and downswing.

5. **Downswing and Impact:** Shift your weight from the back foot to the front foot as you begin the downswing. Aim to make contact with the ball on a slightly descending path, ensuring a clean strike. Maintain a square clubface at impact for accuracy. It is key you are never hitting up on the ball. You want to compress the ball and hit it on an impact that it has nowhere to go but dead straight.

6. **Follow-through:** Extend your arms fully during the follow-through, and let your body rotate naturally. A balanced finish is indicative of a well-executed swing. The best shots a golfer can have are when their follow-through looks like a picture-perfect swing. Everything is in sync, balanced, and on time. A key contributor to this is a steady head. Keeping your head steady and following with your eyes helps your balance.

7. **Practice:** Consistency is key. Regularly practice your swing on the driving range, focusing on specific aspects of your technique. Consider seeking advice from a golf professional to fine-tune your form.

Golf will never be a sport that you can perfect. One day you may feel on top of the world and your game has never felt stronger, and the next it can feel like you have never played golf in your entire life. One of the biggest things a golfer can do is have a positive mindset. Even if you are not playing your best round of golf, having a positive mindset can turn any poor round into a decent or good round in a matter of a hole.
