Knowing an upcoming test is important adds a lot of pressure to everyone. The will to do well is high. However, sometimes, the idea of studying is so daunting that we put it off. There are many steps and tricks that can improve both your study habits and your performance.

The Plan of Attack:

  1. Start studying early. This can be difficult with busy schedules, but it is pertinent to your success. It would help if you gave your brain enough time to properly learn the information beyond memorization purposes. This helps promote long-term knowledge development and will build confidence when test day comes.
  2. Review your notes. Looking over your notes can help you remember important information. Reading over them a few times before continuing can help build a knowledge base.
  3. Create a study guide. In some cases, you’ll be given a study guide. In these cases, look at the study guide and expand on all the topics, including all notable information. If you must create your study guide, pull all essential topics from the notes. Then, include all details and important concepts. It is important to use thorough but concise explanations of concepts.
  4. Study materials. Online study tools like Quizlet are useful for locking concepts in. If you prefer, good old-fashioned flashcards are always helpful. Just taking the time to write everything down will help you remember them. Spend at least 30 minutes to an hour daily for a minimum of a week before your test.
  5. Repetition, repetition, repetition. The best way to ensure you know all materials is to be consistent. You can do a Quizlet daily, use a whiteboard to redraw diagrams and write information, rewrite your notes, or verbally recall the information daily.
  6. Teach it. One of the best ways to ensure that you understand concepts is to ensure that you can confidently teach them. If you can teach someone else the details, you must know them clearly.
  7. Be confident. If you have done all these things, the hard part is already done. You now have every right to be confident in your abilities and knowledge. Enjoy the moment to show off your hard work, and look forward to the payout. Keeping a calm mind will give you clarity as you take on the test.

Overall, studying can be annoying at times and often seems daunting. However, if you put in the work and break it up, you can easily achieve success and get the results you desire.
