March 14–15, 2019
To mark Open Data Day 2019, Utopia will conduct a two-day design challenge event in collaboration with Nepal Mahila Ekata Samaj, Nepal Basobas, Maker KT, Nepal Communitere, Makervalley and Women LEAD Nepal.
The Design Challenge is based on two thematic areas: urban informality and urban mobility. These are two major sectors that would deeply benefit from generation and use of open data. The design challenge will identify and select a problem statement (Day 1), which teams will use to prototype innovative solutions (Day 2).
Day 1 | Problem Articulation
Closed sessions: Participants will apply and be selected for participation in the two thematic workshops.
Public session: Teams will present their problem statements during the public pitch session, followed by lunch and mingling.
Day 2 | Prototyping & Urban Data Panel
Closed sessions: Winning Day 1 team will then be divided into new teams to go through prototyping solutions on the selected problem statement.
Public sessions: Refreshments will start off the prototype pitch sessions. A panel discussion then will go through practitioners’ experiences in working with urban data, along with a lively dialogue with the audience.
In the spirit of transparency, final prototype selection will be based on in-person attendees, curation team, panelists and online voting.
Interested to participate in the workshops? Please fill out this brief form by March 6.
