Chords

This might sound extremely naive and amateurish, but the satisfaction I get when I am able to play a chord progression is immense. A couple of reasons for it. One, the hand movements. When I look at others playing and they are able to go from one chord to another easily, it seems very impressive. Obviously, they might actually know why that chord progression works, while I just remember the progression and play, but still. Two, since chords have different shapes, and have to be played near the top of the keys or bottom depending on whether there are black keys involved, it seems unbelievable when after some practice the hands are automatically able to get into the right shape before pressing the keys. The transition of something from hard to easy is very apparent.

Now I have been talking about chords all this while because I have been working on the chord progression for Cowboy Song. I have the progression down when it comes to playing left hand only. I start to make mistakes when right hand comes in too. But that’s just in the beginning. If I play the same line over and over again, I will be playing in correct most of the times. It’s the transition from the previous line to the next that I am not able to do properly. So that is what I will be working on.

I have also been revising the old pieces. Today I was working on the second piece from the book that I learnt called The Trumpet Tune. I have now recalled the piece but am not able to play it fluently. Will need a lot more practising to get to a state where I can just pick up that piece and play it correctly in the first go.

So yeah, these are the two pieces I will be working on for next couple of days at least.

Learning A-Z was easy. Learning A-G seems harder. This is how I am doing it.
