Cowboy Song

Let me start this post on a positive note, and then later get to the sad part. I have completed the piece I was working on this week. It was not a very hard piece, but if you don’t have much experience playing chords it might give you some trouble as it did to me. The dynamics are also simple, alternating between f and p every line. I didn’t get the dynamics right though, and I will get to the reason in the sad part of this post. But for now, here is how it sounds.

Since I started working on this book, I record much less frequently. And I have realised that I am not getting any better at it. Pieces that I am able to play fine otherwise, I start to get wrong as soon as I press the record button. That is what happened with this piece as well. I was able to play it properly. Performed the same for my teacher this morning. He was satisfied and asked me to move to the next piece. And then when I start recording, for some reason I make random mistakes that I never made before. So after struggling for about half an hour, I decided to just get this ‘good enough’ recording done and come back to it some time later.

Since playing for a recorder is so challenging, I can only imagine how playing it for an audience would be. I guess the trick is, always play pieces lower than your grade. Don’t know if that’s what people do.

Anyways, I have the next piece assigned from the book. That one does not look easy. The rhythm is complicated and I think I will need to listen to some recordings to understand how it should sound. Will get started on it from tomorrow.

How I Learnt Piano

Learning A-Z was easy. Learning A-G seems harder. This is how I am doing it.
