100 Words, Day 18: Open the mic!
The Petravita rollercoaster continues its progression through peaks and valleys, as life tends to do.
Tonight, I was able to cast aside my stress, get on stage, and do what I love the most: Say words into a microphone — duh!
Tonight I performed Otis, High Five, and an old spoken word favorite “The Tree” — which was (I believe) included in the very first set I ever did on stage, way back when I lived in England a few years ago.
Every time I perform, I get a boost that makes me long for the days when I can play shows as many nights a year as possible; to watch people smile, clap, wave their arms, and sing along as often as possible.
If you’re thinking of doing music, GET YOUR ASS TO AS MANY OPEN MICS AS POSSIBLE. You’ll get experience, develop your stage presence, network with other creative people, and build your fans/network.
Happy hump day!
