KU researcher Dr. Dimitrije Cabarkapa honored with the NSCA 2024 Young Investigator Award
Dr. Dimitrije Cabarkapa, the Associate Director of the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory at the University of Kansas, has been honored with the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s 2024 “Terry J. Housh Outstanding Young Investigator Award.” This award recognizes a researcher with seven or fewer years in the field.
Dimitrije’s research interests, shaped by his own experience as an athlete, focus on sports science and the enhancement of athlete performance. In the past five years, he has authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles and has been a presenter at various regional, national, and international conferences. Dimitrije has also forged strong collaborative ties with numerous esteemed sports organizations and academic institutions around the globe, including those in the USA, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. His current and forthcoming research endeavors aim to investigate the biomechanical and neuromuscular performance characteristics of professional athletes, their physical and physiological reactions during training and competition, and the application of cutting-edge technology in monitoring athlete performance.
The Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory, affiliated with the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, falls under the Department of Health, Sport, and Exercise Sciences within the School of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Kansas.
Dr. Cabarkapa was recognized at the 2024 NSCA National Conference held in Baltimore, MD, July 10–13.
