H. Spectrum & Merck KGaA collaborate to set up an innovation lab in Taipei, Taiwan

On December 18, 2018, H. Spectrum, the leading organization focusing on cultivating Taiwan’s biomedical talents and backed by YongLin Healthcare Foundation of Foxconn Medical Business Group, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Merck KGaA, a German life science and technology company, to establish H. Spectrum & Merck Innovation Lab.

What exactly is an innovation lab and what is its purpose?

An innovation lab is a work space for new ideas and new product development to flourish. It is an environment that optimizes innovation, new ideas and people.

H. Spectrum & Merck Innovation Lab puts a special focus on seed-stage startups and has the objective to identify needs and drive technology-based innovation in the areas including bio-sensing & interfaces, liquid biopsy technologies, patient journey optimization, as well as precision medicine.

We believe that changes begin with curiosity. Our innovation lab is a place where entrepreneurs and driven to discover and thrive.

We have created this space for fresh thinking, with the goal to improve the healthcare of every person through innovation and creativity.

The Design Concept: Coming Alive

H. Spectrum & Merck Innovation Lab is located in Taipei, Taiwan. It has been designed to be anything but a traditional office. The project was inspired by the biological process of cell division as the core concept of the design. Just like during the process of cell division, our innovation lab allows the individual to grow and change. The clear corrugated roof sheets are like cell walls, growing separately, or flowing and waiting for fusion.

Furthermore, the innovation lab is designed to allow several teams to work on different projects in a more collaborative and innovative style. The tables height variation gives people the option to freely choose whether they want to sit or stand.

Our innovation lab is an ideal working space that empowers entrepreneurs to make their vision come alive.
