Kaseya Receives Key to Unlock Victims’ Data After Massive Ransomware Attack

The software company at the center of a huge ransomware attack this month has obtained a universal key to unlock files of the hundreds of businesses and public organizations crippled by the hack.

Nineteen days after the initial attack over the Fourth of July weekend, the Florida-based IT management provider, Kaseya, has received the universal key that can unlock the scrambled data of all the attack’s victims, bringing the worst of the fallout to a close. (Source)

IoT Security Dangers Loom as Office Workers Return

With corporate America beginning to ask employees to come back to their offices in the fall, cybersecurity teams have a huge task before them to ensure their work environment is safe. This is particularly true of IoT devices, as many have been left unprotected for months.

Back in March 2020, IT and cybersecurity teams began setting up workers to operate from home, and few had time to worry about the IoT devices left behind, says Mark Ostrowski, head of engineering for security firm Check Point. (Source)

New Security Report Finds Almost All Organizations Suffered At Least One Data Breach in Past 18 Months

Nearly 100% of organizations experienced a cloud data breach within the last 18 months, according to the cloud infrastructure security firm Ermetic. The cloud data breach report also found that cloud security incidents increased by almost 20% within the past year.

The survey, which polled 200 CISOs and other key IT security decision-makers, also found that the lack of visibility and identity management was a major security threat for most organizations. (Source)

NIST Selects 18 Tech Companies for Zero-Trust Demos

The National Institute of Standards and Technology selected 18 tech companies to demonstrate zero-trust security architectures as it drafts guidance for agencies and industry.

Companies will work with NIST‘s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence to design and deploy architectures in accordance with Special Publication (SP) 800–207, as part of the Zero-Trust Architecture Project. (Source)
