Rome: Unexpected Outcomes

On our first morning in Rome, mum told me that we were going to go to the Vatican today. Until then I had only vaguely heard that the pope lives there and it is famous for a church or something. She explained that we were going to the famous museum that was there. As she said that I thought urgghhhhhh another boring museum where I am going to be bored and miserable all day. You are probably thinking yeah she was totally bored. Well think again. 🤔

Whilst we were walking there, mum and dad told us about the time when they were there (so 20 years ago) there were so many people and it was so hot that mum fainted. It was pretty hard to imagine it because this time, there was absolutely no one and in about 10 minutes 🕑 we were already strolling through the museum’s corridors.

Now coming back to the greatness of the museum. I will explain how it was so amazing… An audio guide. Yes a simple audio guide kept us in the museum for 4 hours! 😲 It was really designed for kids and unlike some places you really understood what the man was saying. I was discovering the museum alongside him with lots of information and humour here and there. I loved ♥ it so much and the fact that it was practically empty made the experience even better. Out of the whole museum the part I liked best was the Egyptian museum as it was there that I learned the most things. I even saw a real mummy from thousands of years ago ‼️

This is the mummy, so creepy right!

The visit came to an end with the Sixtine chapel. As the most famous thing in the museum it was pretty amazing. In the little church we all thought about my little cousin whose name happens to be Sixtine!

The next day I was sooooo exited I was going to see another wonder of the world. Mum and dad had already been but because we could not go see the Taj Mahal they decided that we would go to the Coliseum instead. I was super excited I had been told that it was incredible and was an amazing experience. As soon as we got in, we put on hand sanitiser (in Italy there was hand sanitiser everywhere as a result we were putting some on literally every two seconds) and surprise surprise it smelled of the famous Haribo® sweets dragibus! What a good start to the visit! But then things did not go quite as expected…

Firstly, we were all a little disappointed as the app that gave you a little more information about the monument was only in Italian. 😢 Secondly, our chaperon (he wasn’t really a guide he was just there to make sure we all stayed in a group and that no one was lagging behind) was very annoying. He rushed around the site so quickly you barely had time to see the monument and kept snapping at us for trying to sneak off to get a longer look at the arena. 😡 And thirdly, well I simply didn’t enjoy the visit. All it was to me was just a pile of rubble. Ok I have to admit it was quite pretty from the outside but I just did not find it that amazing. To be honest I even found the experience a little boring!

So in the end things did not go as planned: 📜 I thought that the Vatican museum would be boring but I found it amazing. I also thought the Coliseum would be great and in my opinion, it turned to be not that amazing at all. From this experience I learned that expectations can be wrong and you must not judge a book 📚 by its cover!
