Hello everyone, and welcome back to our blog!

We are now in Italy after 2 months of confinement, and it feels good but weird to be on the road again! Weird because travelling isn’t as relaxed as what it was when we started travelling. We have to wear face masks a whole lot more than in France and we literally put hand gel on every 2 minutes so the way of travelling is slightly different. Something that is quite frustrating as well is that a lot of shops are closed which meant that we once spent about 15 minutes looking for a good OPEN restaurant!

Anyway, the first city we visited was the city of Aosta. We arrived there in the evening so we just had dinner and went to bed. When we woke up the next morning, we saw that it was raining so much!!☔️ But we went out anyway because we only had that day to visit the city. We visited a church, some ancient Roman arches and just generally walking around in the streets. We also stopped to have a snack and I tried the Italian hot chocolate and a tiramisu, both were delicious!! 😋

On the second day, we went on a hike which I found dragged on and on, so that day wasn’t the best… the views were nice though…

My thoughts on Aosta are quite balanced (although leaning towards the positive side) because the city wasn’t particularly beautiful although the ancient buildings were quite impressive. The hike had some enjoyable parts and some less enjoyable parts. Plus the weather was rubbish on the first day and it was rather windy during the hike. So, let’s say I was hoping for better when leaving Aosta.

We then took the car to Genoa and on the way, we stopped to visit a castle and a fort and an outlet mall on the outskirts of Torino, where Mum bought a new handbag!

When we got to Genoa, again it was the evening so we didn’t visit anything.

On the first day in Genoa, it was raining cats and dogs on and off the WHOLE day!☔️ So we stayed in the house during the morning and went out to the nice restaurant because it was Mother’s Day! We all ate some delicious food and Mum received her gifts so everything was great!

In the afternoon, we walked around the city and visited the Museum of the Sea. I really enjoyed the visit because there was a Geronimo Stilton, the mouse, trail with games and things to find. The one disappointing part was that most of the explanations were in Italian.

Today, we woke up and saw that the sun was back so we set off and walked around some of the other very narrow streets (they’re all like that). To our frustration, a surprising amount of shops were closed so we had trouble finding lunch but in the end everyone ate, don’t worry! 😉 We also went on a lift which gives a panoramic view of the harbour, sea and city. We ended the day by wanting to go to the aquarium and walking all around it for 10 minutes looking for the entrance to find out in the end that it was closed! Ugh😫…

I liked Genoa because the harbour was nice and the museum was very interesting, there was also a nice fountain where Apolline and I took loads of pictures!

One thing I didn’t really like were the narrow streets because they made me feel a bit uncomfortable and they were all quite dark.

One of the narrow streets staring two of the only other tourists (nuns) in the whole city1

As a first impression, Italy was not what I expected but I think the fact that being there in a weird time is having on impact in our experience. I am looking forward to continuing our road trip in Italy!

Arrivederci!
