What I like and don’t like about Kathmandu

I like…

  1. The temples of Kathmandu are great and there are some temples which are famous for something. Some are very important for the religions: Boudhanath for Buddhism and Prashapatinath for Hindus for example
Boudhanath stupa

2. There are some funny things, one of them is about telephone📞 wires. You know that in France or England, they put the cables underground ? Well, in Kathmandu, they don’t so there are big packets of wires in knots and so, I’m wondering: “How did they put the last wire in?”

Big knot of telephone wires in Thamel, Kathmandu

3. I like the momos, or mo:mos (people write them the two ways) and surprinsingly, it’s the traditional Nepalese food, initially from Tibet. Momo’s are like Chinese dumpling but with more dough. We tasted them in a restaurant called “momo hut”. My favourite momos are garlic and cheese and… chocolate🍫 momos!!! and plus, there is caramel with the chocolate and peanuts in there, we use toothpicks to mix the caramel and the chocolate and it’s suuuper satisfying for us (lots of things are satisfying for us!)

Momos!! (not the chocolate ones)

I don’t like

1. The amount of people. There are 1.3 million people🧑🏽👨🏽 in Kathmandu and they all push you around, especially when you’re small and it’s very easy to lose yourself

2. The traffic is crazy! there is not even a pavement! There are scooters, motorbikes, old cars, tuk-tuks and lots of people carrying heavy baskets on their back, strapped to their head… it’s annoying

3. The pollution and the dust. Like I said, there are 1.3 million people in Kathmandu and with the traffic there is a lot of pollution. My dad even had a sore throat because of that. Also, because of an earthquake in 2015, they need to rebuild lots of buildings but they are not finished so that makes even more pollution because of dust.

Overall, I didn’t really like Kathmandu because it was too busy and too polluted.

Bye!
