Music and food have gone hand-in-hand since long before the famous line from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Food has inspired everyone from classical composers, to jazz artists and spawned a never-ending list of pop songs that goes back decades . There’s even evidence to suggest that music can change the way that food tastes and that something as simple as the volume in a restaurant can have an impact on what you choose to order.

So it naturally goes without saying that live music and great food get along famously, and there’s no shortage of places to enjoy both in London. Today, we’ve selected three of our favourite restaurants that offer top quality live musical performances on a regular basis.

DISHOOM | KENSINGTON

Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 7.30pm

The superb live music at Dishoom’s fifth branch, situated in West London’s Kensington, harkens back to the golden age of Indian jazz in 1940s Bombay (now Mumbai). While India isn’t the first place most people think of when it comes to jazz, the expertly selected music and stunning Art Deco surroundings make the venue a thoroughly unique setting to enjoy Dishoom’s Bombay cafe-style food.

DALSTON JAZZ CLUB | DALSTON
Every Thurs, Fridays from 7.30pm

As you might expect from the name, there’s Jazz on the menu at the Dalston Jazz Bar, but for foodies, there’s plenty to recommend as well, with white shark fillet, kangaroo and crocodile being served up by the venue’s resident gastronaut and occasional DJ, Chef Robert. With a superb lineup of London’s top jazz musicians and a ‘pay what you want’ menu, Dalston Jazz Bar is fast becoming a favourite among London jazz lovers.

LE QUECUMBAR | BATTERSEA

6 nights a week from 8.00pm

More vintage jazz for our final venue, this time from Battersea jazz hotspot Le QuecumBar, which specialises in an authentic mix of French gypsy swing and New Orleans style jazz. This snug, intimate, Parisian-themed venue is the perfect spot to showcase an ever-changing lineup of great acts alongside food that’s “hearty but not haughty”.

That’s all for today’s post but we’ll be back with more suggestions for anyone looking to enjoy live music and great food. Did we miss any of your favourites ?
