How To Solve The Hardest Decisions You Have
When I am in a dilemma, I do the newspaper test.
When I am not sure if what I am doing is right, I do the newspaper test.
When I am worried that what I am doing may upset others, I do the newspaper test.
When I have no idea if I should do something, I do the newspaper test.
The newspaper test became popular during a joined talk by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in front of a group business students.
When Warren Buffett was asked about how he instill ethical leadership throughout his organization. Warren Buffett replied, “We have all the money we need, we like to have more but we can afford to lose money. However we can never lose a shred of reputation. So I will ask my managers to judge every actions they take according to the legal standards and the newspaper test”.
So what is the newspaper test?
It is to picture your actions being publish in a front cover of the local newspaper. To be read by your families, friends, neighbours and co-workers. If it passes the test, proceed with the action. And if your actions comes close to the failing line, you know what not to do.
So the next time before you make a decision on something, use the newspaper test.
