Over 25 million of Nigeria’s total population live in disability, ranging from mental, physical and developmental disabilities, it is believed disability lies in the society, Nigerians have however been cynical about integrating the disabled into the society forgetting “we are all disabled in one form or the other.”

The disabled community has successfully lobbied the Disability bill out of the senate but it awaits assent by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. This bill has left senate since 2014 and waits signing into law by the presidency.

While the bill waits, people living with all kinds of disability like ADD/ADHD, Asperger syndrome, Autism, down syndrome, dyslexia, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, learning disability, memory loss, OCD, phobia; Agoraphobia, Hydrophobia, pyro-phobia, xenophobia, schizophrenia, visual impairment e.g. blindness, cataract, hearing impairment e.g. Meniere, tinnitus, mobility impairment, arthritis, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, chronic illness like asthma, cancer, hypoglycemia, drug addiction and many other form of disabilities are wandering in silence without welfare.

This disability bill detailed provisions of welfare and infrastructural designs that’ll assists disabled Nigerians rise and compete against physical limitations and in the long run eradicate societal prejudice to the disabled community.
