Recent events from Chicago to Dayton have highlighted a huge issue within the support base for Donald Trump, and the likelihood for…continued violence as the campaign continues into the summer. Some reports have spotlighted certain members of Trump’s base as racist, xenophobic, and anti-Semitic. However, racism alone does not fully explain how a large swath of the U.S. population has become so angry at immigrants, and minorities. ¶ In order to understand what is going on beneath the surface across America, we have to look at the insecurity many Americans face.

Why aren’t we funding aid?
We are going to spend ~$500 million assisting in the fight against the Islamic State, to this point we have contributed nearly 100 military…advisors and conducted between 2–3% of the airstrikes. At the same time, Canada and its allies are failing to provide the increased funding desperately needed for aid programs. ¶ The Canadian government spends roughly $20 billion a year on defense, the US $600 billion and most other G7 nations spending ~$50 billion. This represents an average spending commitment of 1.5% of these nation’s GDP, Canada sitting at 1%.

For maybe the 4th time this week, I read the comments. I never read the comments but this week I somehow decided that strangers can…validate my existence. Tell your {REAL} story: A call to action.
Growing up in a in Houston, as a member of a baptist church, in a tight knit very religious family, it difficult to be “confused” about…your own sexuality. It’s even more difficult to want to share your coming-of-age story and being afraid of who you can tell without judgement. However, I believe the worst part of all is searching for a similar story and not being able to find one. Personally, this made my story feel more dark, dirty, and shameful than anything else. I searched as much as a 22 year old living in her mother’s house could.

I am not a Native American, my roots were transplanted here from Africa, but both of us have been thrown into the fire of American…oppression. My own oppression has been built into and onto their system of oppression due to the functioning of America as a settler colony. Land stolen without the trading of deeds, through conquest and war, all in the name of a manifest destiny, relegating the descendants of those who taught their grandfathers and great grandfathers how to survive the coldest and harshest winters to mere corners of the land they once roamed.

Masculinity, Yet Again, is Fragile
Yesterday, after the posting of an article concerning the murder of Janese Talton Jackson, I went on a rant. I don’t usually go on rants…, but I’m tired. I’m tired of women being killed for telling men no. I’m tired of the #notallmen brigade showing up to defend men when rape and violence against women is discussed. I’m tired of the misogyny and the hatred of Black women from Black men. While we talk a damn good game about “protecting our women” we do a much better job of killing or seriously injuring them.
