One of the most popular Christmas presents this year was VR glasses (virtual reality glasses). There are a number of brands available but the most popular was Oculus. The disturbing fact however is that, believe it or not, a majority of purchasers specifically mentioned they were using the glasses to view porn.

A 3,000-person study was just completed, surveying users in both the United States and the United Kingdom which came up with the following troubling statistics:

  • The number of female VR porn users almost tripled from 2019 to 2021
  • Over 83% of VR headset users watched VR porn at least once before
  • 67% of users bought VR headsets exclusively for adult content
  • 71% of men originally purchased a VR headset to watch VR porn content compared to only 9% among women
  • 88% of VR headset users intend to increase their use in the next year and that’s heavily because of VR porn and live camming shows.

Not mentioned in the study, but in a recent webinar, it was mentioned that the market for child porn has skyrocketed since the beginning of COVID-19, and with the popularity of sexting in preteen groups, much of that content finds its way to those producing and selling porn.
