Why we use them, what they are, and how to use them best.
Why do I need an offering?
I give offerings to my deities every day. I feel like they give me so much insight into my own life’s journey that it would be rude of me not to show them my appreciation.
When you offer something to a deity, you are showing them loyalty, gratitude, and love. Gods and Goddesses will have their own unique likes and dislikes. They are just like you and me in that respect so keep their preferences in mind when planning your offerings.
What is an offering?
An offering is just an item. It doesn’t have to be over the top. It can be as simple as lighting an incense your deity likes, or lighting a candle in their honor. It is preferred — although not necessary — that the offering be a natural or earthly object, or made from natural items.
Here are some examples you can use as offerings:
- Incense
- Crystal
- Bowl of herbs or flowers
- Foods
- Candle(s)
- Songs
- Poetry
- Stones
- A drawing
