Design for Humanity Report and Video Release

New York — At the first Design for Humanity Summit, keynote speaker Randy Fiser asked an audience of 350 humanitarians and designers, “Where are our synergies, where are our gaps, and what can we do as a collective to really change things?”

Forty humanitarians and designers tackled this question at the one-day event hosted by the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) and the UN Migration Agency (IOM).

As we move forward, we will continue to bridge gaps between designers and humanitarians, and ultimately promote human-centered design processes in humanitarian response.

Learn how attendees and speakers at the Summit rose to the challenge in the Design for Humanity Report.

We contend that leaving no one behind means not only responding to people in need, but collaborating with them to design the spaces, projects, and policies that govern their lives.

A growing community of humanitarians and designers have joined us in this endeavor. They embrace the notion that good design is a public right deserved by all, especially those most inflicted by injustices and crises.

In the coming months, we will release the first Design for Humanity Yearbook featuring case studies, articles, and other contributions from the designers and humanitarians who presented at the Summit.

In the meantime, the Design For Humanity report expands on the initiative’s mission, highlights from the Summit, and our goals as we move forward with the Design for Humanity Initiative.
