Feel like you just want to stare at nothing and scream silently?
How to feel better by shifting our perspective
Picture this. It is 2021, and it feels like nothing has changed to the better, there is as much fear, frustration, anger, anxiety as ever. Maybe even more.
Only now (March!), we are no longer hoping that the magic of the New Year will save us from it all.
Maybe you don’t have to picture it, because this is how the world looks to many of us nowadays.
And that makes so much sense!
Given how much we care about our friends and loved ones, how much uncertainty there is in the air, of course we are going to feel all lost and angry and frustrated and scared and anxious. And more!
Today’s quote comes from the 2016 movie The Good Place:
“I just want to sit and stare at nothing, and silently scream for the rest of time.”
— The Good place, Tahani Al-Jamil
….and don’t we all, sometimes?
What do I do then? If I knew WHAT to do, I would have done it already…! What can I CHANGE when I cannot even leave my home…
Sometimes, all we can do, is look at things differently. I know that outside world is beyond our control.
This is where the Core Energy coaching levels come in handy (reference at the bottom). And when I say Leadership — it can just apply to leading my own life. Levels are 1 through to 7, here I explore them up to Level 4.
Level 1: The original quote. It is an excellent example of feeling stuck, lost, not having a choice, being unwilling and unwanting to change anything:
“I just want to sit and stare at nothing, and silently scream for the rest of time.”
Level 2: Introducing some “angry” energy, to the extent that it gives us a boost. No violence of any kind but rather fighting energy, which can move us much more efficiently to progress than being stunned. This is the first step towards all the higher levels too.
“I am so fed up with just sitting here and staring at nothing and silently scream for the rest of time.”
Level 3: I find a way to cope with the situation. I still see it as a highly undesirable place to be at, and I still see no solutions. But I am fine. I can cope:
“I just want to sit and stare at nothing, and silently scream for the rest of time. But that is fine, at least I still have the opportunity to sit in silence once in a while”
Level 4: This is the level, where I remember that my loved ones and my community might also feel the same way I do. I care about them and want to help them (even if I am still miserable):
“I just want to sit and stare at nothing, and silently scream for the rest of time. Maybe my friends feel the same way, too. I wonder how can I help them.”
In conclusion? YOU GOT THIS! We cannot always choose reality, but we can learn how to choose our perspective on it. IT CAN BE TAUGHT AND LEARNED!!!
And I remind myself that wherever I find myself from 1 through 7, it is okay. I am okay, and where I am is the lesson I am meant to be learning right now.
