What drove you to get certified in each of your chosen domains?

As an engineering leader, and more recently as a DevOps consultant, I have long believed and experienced that DevOps is complex but the benefits of “DevOps-done-right” is worth it. Knowledge of good DevOps engineering practices, crystalized through DevOps Institute certifications, is critical to mastering the complexity for the benefits of my stakeholders. Formal recognition by way of certification for the DevOps specialties is also a valuable addition to my resume.

How has getting certified benefited your career? Any recommendations to others who are thinking about joining a certification program?

The DevOps Institute certifications are valuable credentials to validate my knowledge and skills when I present myself to clients. For example, the DevOps Foundations (DOF), DevOps Leadership (DOL), Test Engineering (DTE) and Continuous Delivery Architect (CDA) courses were all valuable when I was helping a large insurance company with their need to transition a large policy application team from slow, buggy waterfall processes to faster more predictable DevOps solutions. As a DevOps Institute certification holder, the knowledge and clarity I gained from formal study to prepare for the exams has also helped me articulate and work through the complexities of DevOps when I am performing as a DevOps consultant with enterprise clients.

What are your top study tips prior to taking an exam?

Study the learner manual, watch the supplementary videos, do the exercises and study the study guide materials.

Are you planning to secure additional certifications? Which ones?

Yes, most likely SRE Foundation and DevSecOps Engineering.
