My mother used to deliver meals-on-wheels. I wish I could say I didn’t have an ulterior motive but I was desperate to get my driving licence and the only way I could get any practice was to drive her around. But it is an experience that left an impression on me — the many people who were volunteering.
In my time at BSC I have met many more fantastic groups of people giving up their time to make a difference in their communities and societies. Like the ladies I met in Sheffield at the launch event for DERiC (Developing and Empowering Resources in Communities). After the event they gave us a lift back to the station in their mini-bus. They were wonderful people. Hopefully what we are doing will give them and others the resources they need to do this vital work.
