When do I feel I am best serving my purpose? When I am able to effect change either directly or indirectly. Working with people enables me to open up the possibility of change. I really like the notion of progress and forward movement.

I’ve been working in management development, training and HR for most of my career… It’s a fantastic privilege to have such interesting conversations and be involved in someone’s development.

One of my areas of expertise includes putting together big development programmes and [with On Purpose] we thought of having a coaching component to support the Associates. We thought that would be a great thing to do. And that’s how it started. I was very happy to be involved and brought together a number of colleagues to be coaches in the programme.

I’ve coached Associates from the first On Purpose programme onwards… In a number of cases I’ve continued the relationship with the Associates when they have become Fellows and that’s been great to see how they are doing and what they are up to. From the experience of other coaches, I get the feeling that the coaching sessions provide a welcome opportunity for the Associates to talk to someone from outside the host organisation and On Purpose programme — completely outside and in confidence. These discussions with an independent party form an important added value.
