If ADHD is My Superpower, Email is My Kryptonite
It’s an irresistible rabbit hole of distraction, procrastination, and busy-work.
How many emails are in your inbox right now?
Be honest. Here, I’ll show you mine:
Did you just read off the little number next to the folder? If you did, you might want to re-check, because I learned the hard way that’s not how many emails are in the folder — that’s how many emails are unread.
Ouch.
That there, my friend, is a toleration — as in, at any given moment, writing an article, kissing my partner, driving my car, updating a work spreadsheet — I have, in the back of my head, the knowledge that there are 1,153 emails that, for some reason, I chose not to delete right away. That means they have something that I thought was worth reading, or something I needed to do, or someone I needed to reply to.
