Clue To Solving Incurable Diseases: How Will Humanscape Conquer Rare Incurable Diseases?

Through our last article, we shared with all of you how Humanscape managed to emerge into the healthcare field.

The Humanscape Project launched to address the astronomical costs from a lack of treatment options for patients. For patients who do not know the cause of the disease, who are suffering from a life-long suffering with diseases that cannot be cured, and whose families suffer from mental and economic pain, Humanscape is a project that is advancing to answer and help these problems.

‘The clue to the solution is the data that patients generate, PGHD.’

Patient Generated Health Data (PGHD) refers to health-related data recorded and generated by a patient in a non-hospital setting. The introduction of the smartphone allowed people to become very quickly accustomed to the use of electronic devices. As a result, online surveys, mobile apps, and wearable devices are easily utilized to collect a variety of PGHDs. Health data is a combination of genetic data, clinical data, and PGHD. Surprisingly, 60% of that data is made up by the data generated from patients (PGHD).

Most patient activity occurs outside the hospital, therefore the amount of accurate information that can be recorded is limited during the consultation hours. As a result, the importance of PGHD is gradually increasing as the information that is being collected directly from patients is substantially larger than that of a regular data set. Compared to other data, PGHD has not been of relatively clinical value or interest, but it serves as a complement to existing medical data that can not be explained, filling information gaps and providing a more comprehensive understanding of patient’s health.

According to Accenture’s survey, the number of consumers participating in PGHD collections using mobile health applications increased from 16% in 2014 to 33% in 2016. It is then predicted that the amount of PGHD collected will increase significantly in the future. Thus, PGHD, which contains a wide range of information about patient health and illness throughout daily life, can be a clue to the solution of incurable diseases if it is systematically collected and integrated to medical diagnoses.
