The reality of this spring is sad but simple — home sitting for more than half of Earth’s population. The reality of this spring is sad but simple — home sitting for more than half of Earth’s population. Self-education in self-isolation turns into over-nutrition and couch potato way of life. Time to change it radically and start doing regular exercises. Yes, it’s not your habit so far (otherwise you would not read it all), but extreme days need drastic measures to keep fit and fight a Groundhog Day state of things.

Our editors tested a number of fitness apps to select the top five (and a bonus for the bravest):

Asana Rebel: Get In Shape

Why it’s good: Helps to stay healthy both physically and mentally

This app is a complex one. It does sound a bit yoggish, but it combines a yoga-based workout with high-intensity cardio training and meditation. Don’t think it’s mostly for women, plenty of training videos here are shot and designed for men. If you want a full cycle, you can also use Asana Rebel to control your sleep habits and fall asleep easily with relaxing music.

It has some premium features, but you can easily dodge it during registration. If you buy it, Asana Rebel tracks your progress, creates daily challenges and provides you with nutrition recipes to eat healthily.

Price: $5.83/month for annual subscribers, $16.66/month for quarterly

Fitbit Coach

Why it’s good: You choose the coach you like and start for free (or not).

You don’t need a Fitbit fitness device or a Fitbit account to use it. You register and run through a fitness test, 10 minutes MAX. Then it’s time to choose a proper program depending on your goals, capabilities and time. The last step is a coach selection. Choose wisely but you can always change your mind. In-app motivational music makes your session less dull and inspiring. You can both run with it and/or have various workout activities.

Fitbit Coach Premium makes it more personal and exclusive, plus audio coaching for running and walking. And more coaches to choose as well.

Price: $9.99 per month or $79.99 if you pay annually.

App Store / Google Play

Daily Workouts Fitness Trainer

Why it’s good: It says what it does. Huge variety of workouts.

This app is destined to help your home staying in any condition and under any circumstances. You choose the area of your physique and it starts counting. Now it’s you and 5, 10 or full-body 30 minutes of exercise. If you try hard but still can figure this one out, video instruction is here to help.

100+ exercises for FREE. The Daily Workout developer has freeware and paid versions for a different muscle groups, like Daily Ab, Arm or Butt.

App Store / Google Play

Aaptiv

Why it’s good: You don’t need your phone or at least its screen.

Most of the fitness apps need a video description of the process. Aaptiv talks to you and gives priceless comments throughout a training session so that you don’t need to peep at your phone too often. Licensed music is a welcome addition to your workouts one-on-one with headphones. The app lets you set classic goals, like longer running, weight loss, keeping overall fit and some more specific targets. The app is also aware of your equipment and adds some moves accordingly.

Price: It’s not cheap, $9,99 for a monthly set of additional classes, but it’s totally worth it. The free version is limited but not quite.

App Store / Google Play

Freeletics

Why it’s good: Your body weight is the equipment you have.

Hundreds of exercises, dozens of muscle groups for any level of physics and capabilities. No additional equipment needed, just use your body. Videos guide you through the daily routine, a step by step system suits even for beginners. Built-in counters imitate real coaches standing over you even in self-isolation.

Price: Ironic, it’s normally free, but for $34,99 you get three months of a coach subscription with nutrition advice, goals and training plans.

App Store / Google Play

Bonus: Zombies, Run

Why it’s good: Immersive experience which really makes you run further.

If you can still leave the premises and move freely without fear of getting fined, this app fits you perfectly. Survive the zombie apocalypse through headphones and your imagination. The sounds of rattling groans and The House of The Dead style screams will push it to the limit so that you run as fast as you can.

One of the best fitness-meets-gaming apps ever made.

Price: It’s free if you are not up for a cool offline game with daily activities and achievements. $5,99/month.
