My wife and I are taking the necessary steps to prevent further spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). By practicing social distancing, we are playing our small part to flatten the curve, but it will be anything but easy.

Like most young parents, we will be handling all child care responsibilities since our two-year-old son’s daycare is closed for at least two weeks. My wife is a teacher so her schedule is predictable. My job is already distributed. My company uses Zoom every day for video conferencing. My wife’s school will be using Zoom for team meetings and office hours while they work from home.

I’ve had the flexibility to watch over our son when he’s too sick for school. It’s difficult, but somehow I manage to still be productive. Yet, I haven’t worked from home with my son AND wife over an extended period of time and what seems like the foreseeable future. Oh, and did I mention my wife’s 25 weeks PREGNANT!? Anyone who has attempted to work from home knows there are upsides and downsides, but throw a baby into the mix, and the degree of difficulty is a tenfold increase.

Managing work deliverables and estimating what will happen in the future is daunting, so, together, we systematized a daily schedule. We’ve categorized the table by time, activity, and details. The…
