In a 5,000-year-old burial mound located in southeast Turkey, archaeologists discovered gaming pieces, which now represent the earliest hard evidence of the history of humans and games. Engraved into a wall within an ancient Egyptian pyramid are hieroglyphics from 3500 BCE depicting pharaohs playing a board game called Senet (also known as Mancala) and a dice game called The Royal Game of Ur. Excavations at “The Burnt City” in Iran uncovered evidence of an early form of Backgammon from 3000 BCE. The history of games can be found all around the world, from India, East Asia, Northern Africa, South America, and across the European continent.

Games have continued to evolve from the ancient games to modern games, commercial board games to role playing games, indoor games to outdoor games, card games to video games. They are one of the oldest forms of social interaction and we are compelled to play them. Games are a critical part of our lives, our culture, our past, our present, and our future. They have the ability to inspire us, test us, incentivize us, educate us, engage us, and bring us together in ways that reality cannot. So, it should be of no surprise that we are now using them to tackle some of the biggest challenges that we face as a species.

MoVi Interactive was born out of the belief that by leveraging the power of games we can solve many of the great challenges specific to personal heath and healthcare systems. By creating products and experiences that sit at the intersection of gaming, health, and human-centered design, we are able to enhance user experiences and generate better health outcomes.

Whether it is creating Fitness Faceoff, the first fitness-based strategy game, to gamifying the patient discharge summaries for hospitals, or working with organizations that are seeking to unlock the potential of games — MoVi Interactive is rethinking, redesigning, and reimagining how the future of games and health should come together.
