Part 1 of 2
How the Enneagram Can Help You Write More Dynamic Characters
There’s story gold in them thar lies your characters believe about themselves.
Have you blogged as your characters and gotten a sense of their voices?
Have you made and read soulCollage@ cards for them and learned some of their secrets?
If so, great. If not, you still can.
Either way, you can use the Enneagram to deepen your understanding of your characters and set up their arc.
What is a character arc?
None of us stay static. Throughout our lives, we grow and change. So should our characters.
Readers expect heroes to face their internal flaws and overcome the lie they believed in all their lives. They then expect the hero to use that wisdom to overcome external obstacles and achieve their story goals.
It takes some orchestration to ensure the flaws and lies are set up as clear obstacles to the hero’s success. But when they are, the result satisfies at a visceral level.
The Enneagram can help with this.
