150 Word Review: ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ (2021)

Shhh. The monsters can hear you…

I don’t know why A Quiet Place Part II works, but it does. The plot is simple enough: ferocious aliens who hunt solely by sound invade the Earth and slaughter anyone who makes the slightest noise. You’ve seen — and heard — it before. The gentle crunch of leaves is a death sentence.

The returning cast is small but they deliver, especially charismatic Millicent Simmonds and Emily Blunt, who tip-toes gracefully. Cillian Murphy is a welcome addition to this story of post-apocalyptic survival against murderous extra-terrestrials.

A Quiet Place Part II continues to focus on the Abbot family, but first a flashback to the beginning of the carnage and a melancholy cameo from John Krasinski, whose character sacrificed himself in the last movie to save his children. (Spoiler!) This opening sequence is thrilling. As director, Krasinski keeps the movie short — 97 muscular minutes. I shrieked and grabbed the armrest at least twice.
