One huge reason to write a book

Maybe the biggest reason that I have become so motivated to encourage others to write their book — to kill this particular dragon that they have carried with them for so long— is that the notion of “writing a book” seems to be a metaphor for lots of important things in life.

Like so many big moments in life, we are challenged most not by the doing of the thing, but by the concept of the thing that we carry with us.

For certain challenges, we have such reverence for the thing that it immobilizes us.

The thing is perceived to be so holy, so separate from us, so unattainable, that we don’t allow ourselves to even attempt the thing as a mental exercise.

The reverence is misplaced.
Or we are reacting to it improperly.

We are using the “reverence” as an excuse to do nothing.

In the presence of “the holy” we turn to inaction
and can see ourselves only doing nothing.

If we cannot envision ourselves doing the thing

we will not try to do the thing.

The key, then, is how to allow yourself to envision yourself doing this work.
