Absolute Best Late Night Food Spots on MacDougal Street

You might have read our last post introducing the best hole-in-the-wall joints to dine at. In today’s post, let me introduce to you one of the most popular streets in the Village, MacDougal, where late night bars meet pizza and desserts. What better way to end an evening (or should I say morning) than with food? Starting 9PM onwards is when the party really starts! Come check it out for yourself!

Artichoke Pizza

111 MacDougal St, New York, NY 10012
Phone: (646) 278–6100
Hours: Sunday-Thursday: 11AM-4AM
Friday and Saturday: 11AM-5AM

First up is a favorite among all NYU students… and the real source behind “Freshman 15”. Artichoke Basille’s Pizza’s speciality is, of course, its artichoke pizza. A slice of this creamy goodness goes for $5 a slice. This might seem like a hefty price for a slice of pizza, but it’s a meal in itself! The crispy crust is unlike the signature New York thin crust pizza but contrasts with the cheesy center perfectly. Make sure to stop by early at MacDougal’s location as the line runs out the door, especially on weekends.

However, if ooey-goey goodness isn’t your cup of tea, we also suggest the artichoke pizza’s famous counterparts, the margherita and vodka sicilian pizza slices. Though not nearly as decadent, these attract pizza lovers from all over!

Saigon Shack

114 Macdougal St, New York, NY 10012
Phone: (212) 228–0588
Hours: Sunday-Wednesday: 11AM-11PM
Thursday-Saturday: 11AM-1AM

One of the absolute best places for a taste of Vietnam in New York City is Saigon Shack, located right across the street from Artichoke Pizza. Maybe you’re not feeling pizza but rather a warm bowl of Saigon Shack’s classic beef phos ($9) or a crispy and delicious on-the-go bahn mi ($5). This is the place to go. Designed to resemble a “shack” with its classic wood interior, built-in bar, and visible kitchen behind in the counter, it drives locals and tourists alike to this location. Known for its wonderful food, reasonable prices, and fast service, Saigon Shack is like a little piece of home for everyone. However, be prepared to bring some extra bills before leaving home, as this place is Cash Only.

Pommes Frites

128 Macdougal St, New York, NY 10012
Phone: (212) 674–1234
Hours: Sunday-Thursday: 11AM-2AM
Friday and Saturday: 11AM-3:30AM

Reviewed by Insider as the “best fries in NYC”, Pommes Frites’s unique menu only features its infamous Belgian fries or “pomme frites.” However, the real standout among other fast food joints is its huge, and I mean HUGE (over 30 different types), variety of dipping sauces. Like how its website describes, “The atmosphere is intimate and warm, the packaging and signage unique. Pommes Frites isn’t only selling affordable food, but excitement and an experience, too.” Its prices are affordable and your experience is accompanied by a warm and inviting environment made of dark wood seats and tables and even little pockets dug out of the wood for your cone of fries!

Insomnia Cookies

116 Macdougal St, New York, NY 10012
Phone: (877) 632–6654
Hours: Monday-Thursday: 9AM-3AM
Friday: 9AM-4AM
Saturday: 12AM-4AM
Sunday: 11AM-3AM

The last stop on this food tour of MacDougal Street is a little dessert joint called Insomnia Cookies. Though, at first glance, this place might seem like a tiny shop, it is actually a huge chain with over 100 locations within the U.S. Started by a University of Pennsylvania student back in 2003, it is not surprising that majority of orders are from students themselves. They specialize providing warm cookies and milk at all hours of the night, or should I say, the morning. Its menu consists of the classic, but decadent cookie combinations, such as Triple Chocolate Jumbo Deluxe Cookie (the name itself already has me salivating), the S’Mores Jumbo Deluxe, or just the classic Chocolate Chip Cookie. Its delicious cookie variations like the Cookiewich, refreshing ice cream sandwiched between two warm cookies, or the cookie cakes, up for customization, all make this the go-to place for late night dessert cravings.
