What to Eat in a Day in New York City!

What are the go-to food places in New York City if you only had one day to explore everything? I’m not talking about the generic touristy restaurants that are always packed to the ceiling. I’m talking about the “hole-in-the-wall” food gems scattered around the city. No idea where to go? Don’t worry, I’m here to tell you!

Breakfast: Sunflower Diner

359 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10016
Phone: (212) 532–8171
Hours: Monday 12–12:45AM, 6AM-12:45AM
Tuesday-Thursday 6AM-12:45AM
Friday 6AM-12AM
Saturday-Sunday Open 24 hours

The Sunflower Diner will guarantee a smile on your face as soon as you walk in. A local favorite, this oldie but goodie provides the comfort of dining at home while serving diner favorite foods, like their signature breakfast foods. Think crackling, smoky bacon, soft and fluffy omelettes, and buttermilk waffles drizzled with sweet and thick maple syrup. Sunflower Diner offers breakfast foods to the early birds and night owls alike. Described as the “ultimate comfort food”, this is the best way to start off your morning!

Lunch: La Villetta

398 E 52nd St, New York, NY 10022
Phone: (212) 829–0003
Hours: Monday-Thursday 12AM-10PM
Friday 12AM-11PM
Saturday 1–11PM
Sunday 1–9PM

La Villetta, or in Italian, “little cottage”, is just as comfy and homey as the name entails. This former carriage house features an exposed brick wall adorned with emerald green and blue decorations that is “reminiscent of the stunning seas and coastline of Puglia, Italy”, as stated on their website. Their lunch menu boasts a stunning list classic Italian dishes, described by diners as fresh, authentic, and delicious. The secret to their dishes is using the ingredients of the highest quality and freshness everyday. The fantastic dishes, attentive service, and overall ambience of the restaurant make for the best Italian lunch experience only second to Italy itself.

Dinner: Pars Grill House

249 W 26th St, New York, NY 10001
Phone: 212–929–9860
Hours: Sunday-Saturday 11:30AM-10:30PM

Last but not least, we saved the best for last! Nothing ends a fantastic day like a dinner at Pars Grill House. Located on a practically hidden street in Chelsea, New York City, this restaurant deserves much more attention than it receives. With a menu that serves all types of grilling, specializing in authentic Persian food, drinks, and desserts, this unique hole-in-the-wall also features an interactive belly dancing show accompanied with their meals. Their most popular dishes include Tadig, a crunchy and flavorful rice dish decorated with all the colors of the rainbow in their sauces and side dishes, and their signature koobideh, perfectly grilled skewers and beef with a sprinkling of authentic, aromatic spices. Not a meat-lover? Pars also offers equally as delicious vegetarian dishes. Finish off your meal with the wonderfully rich and sweet baklava and you will not regret your visit!
