Wow! The end of August already?! With fall and winter fast approaching, we really need to take advantage of every possible opportunity to get outside and grill!

Try this recipe on the BBQ this Labor Day weekend or at your next tailgate and hold on to summer as long as you can!

BBQ Beef Sliders

I’m a huge fan of DIY burgers. For one thing, they’re super easy. But more importantly, you know exactly what’s inside of them; no additives or preservatives, just natural ingredients.

Sliders are a great food option when hosting outdoor gatherings. Don’t be deceived by their size. These bite-sized burgers are jam-packed with big taste! The delicious combination of tender beef, crunchy walnuts and ooey-gooey Gorgonzola is sure to be a crowd-pleaser at your next barbeque!

What you’ll need:

1 tsp olive oil
1/2 cup chopped organic onion or shallots
1 cup chopped organic mushrooms
1 tsp ground coarse salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 organic egg
1 lb lean ground beef
4 oz Gorgonzola or blue cheese, divided into 16 portions
32 walnut halves
2 whole wheat baguettes, sliced into 8 equal portions, then sliced horizontally

What to do:

1. Heat oil in saucepan and sauté onion and mushrooms

2. Transfer mixture to large bowl to cool. Add salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and egg. Add beef and mix by hand.

3. Divide mixture into 16 equal portions and form into thick patties. Tuck a piece of cheese and 2 walnut halves into the center of each patty.

4. Grill patties until cooked to preferred doneness.

5. Serve between baguette slices topped with arugula, tomato and red onion along with the usual condiments.

Recipe makes 16 servings.
