It’s the holiday season again! I don’t know about you, but I think it got here quickly…

There’s a lot of craziness going on in the world at the moment. So in the spirit of the holidays, I choose to highlight only the happier news, especially stories that pull at the fan heartstrings. In the vein, I tweeted the other day about a great fan story out of Toronto that made me smile. I thought it was worthier than just a tweet, so for those of you who missed it, here’s the whole story. I hope it tugs upwards at the corners of your mouth a little too.

Brett Lawrie Surprises Young Fan

It has been a busy couple months for baseball moves. Back in November, Toronto Blue Jays infielder, Brett Lawrie, was traded for Josh Donaldson of the Oakland A’s. This left what appears to be his biggest fan — Amelia — devastated. Her dad decided to film her reaction and [for obvious reasons] felt it needed to be shared with the MLB world. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is:

What’s pretty awesome is that shortly after this video went viral, Lawrie’s family reached out to them via Twitter. Amelia & her family live in the same hometown as Lawrie’s (Langley, British Columbia, Canada) and set up a surprise meeting between the two. Lawrie appeared at a local restaurant and Amelia recognized him right away.
Lawrie expressed his gratitude for her video and for her support.

The surprise was complete with a family lunch, a signed jersey, a stuffed animal and a bobble-head doll. Now that is one day this young Hungry Fan won’t forget.
