Some of My New Favorite (Game Day) Things

It’s that time of year again, folks! Can you believe it? The Hall of Fame Game (lame as it was) was a few days ago, ushering in the NFL Preseason (and college football time). This is, hands-down, my favorite time of the year.

Last year I told you all about some cool tailgating gear for making great hot dogs, opening wine and beer bottles and grilling like a champ. You can read my tailgating gadget blog here.

Today, I’m taking the opportunity to tell you about Tailbus because you need to know about it. For those of you living in the TriState area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut), listen up! Here’s the deal…if you’re heading to MetLife and you’re like me — car-less — then you’ll probably agree that it’s pretty tough to tailgate at MetLife. (You can lug all your gear out there by Uber, which is expensive, or by NJ Transit, which blows). In the words of Bill Clinton, I feel your pain. So I sought a solution and found it: Tailbus. (Tailbus currently only serves NY/NJ/CT but will hopefully expand soon to other cities).

What exactly is Tailbus? It’s basically crowdsourced group transit. As the name implies, it’s a bus that will take you to the tailgate. For sports fans here in the NY area, that’s MetLife for the Jets or Giants game.

Here’s why I like it:
1. You can initiate a tailbus and if it sells out, you ride free.
2. It’s a boozy ride…as in, drinks are free onboard. (No, you don’t need glasses. You’re reading this correctly. You can literally pre-pregame on the bus on the way to the tailgate).
3. You’re allowed to bring your tailgating gear on the bus so that you can tailgate when you get there. And Tailbus provides the folding tables. Nice.
4. Each bus has a DJ/Entertainer/Host, serving you drinks, making sure you’ve got everything you need, playing great tunes, and ensuring you have a fun ride.
5. The people you’re riding with probably share the same interests as you — as in they’re also Giants or Jets fans too. Who knows, maybe you’ll make new friends or even score a date.
6. While I prefer to only focus on sports, you can plan or join a trip pretty much anywhere (such as an NHL/NBA game later this year, the Belmont Stakes next year, a Long Island winery, or the Hamptons, etc.).

To plan a Tailbus trip, head here.

Maybe I’ll see you all on a Tailbus this fall! Good luck Giants and Jets fans! I hope you both have winning seasons.
