Starbucks v. Hungry Fan: The Healthier PSL
I don’t know about you, but when someone asks me what my favorite season is I immediately reply: football season. Tailgates, fall weather, the warmth of friends and family…and the mouth-watering game day #hungryfanfood cannot be beat. With the Autumn comes the annual pumpkin craze and I’m one of the many who thinks there’s nothing is better than a hot pumpkin spice latte to keep you warm on game-day. However, even though football Saturday or Sunday usually means binge-eating and drinking, you can take some satisfaction in knowing that Hungry Fan’s Pumpkin Spice Blend is not only delicious but also quite healthy! Our Pumpkin Spice Blend is easy transportable and is much more nutritionally sound (and calorically lighter) than a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte.
The chart below demonstrates the difference between ordering a Starbucks Grande Café Latte (made with a variety of milks) versus ordering a Starbucks Grande Pumpkin Spice Latte (with that same variety of milks). Now, add the nutritional content of the the Hungry Fan Pumpkin Spice to the Café Latte (essentially adding 15 calories and 2 grams of carbohydrates) and you can see how the two pumpkin drinks stack up. (And just for uber transparency: Below the coffee drink comparisons you’ll find the Nutrition Facts for 1 teaspoon of the Hungry Fan Pumpkin Spice Latte):
Hungry Fan™ Pumpkin Spice Fangating™ Blend Nutrition Facts
How you make the healthiest pumpkin spice latte is simple: cut down on excess (empty) calories, which in this case are primarily driven by the sugar content of the pumpkin spice syrup that Starbucks adds to their lattes to make PSLs. A latte will cost you about 15–18 grams of sugar (entirely based on the milk you choose). A PSL will cost you 50–53 grams of sugar. You do the math.
The Hungry Fan version of pumpkin spice has less than 1 gram of sugar in it. It’s so insignificant an amount, it’s nearly impossible to measure. So when you choose a Hungry Fan Pumpkin Spice latte over a Starbucks PSL, you’re biggest dilemma may be which milk to choose as that alone will be the driving force of your caloric (AKA sugar) intake.
Did I mention our Pumpkin Spice Blend is certified organic?
I’m all for enjoying game day without the stress over calories and what’s healthy and what’s not. It’s my cheat/let loose day. But a healthier Pumpkin Spice latte without all the sugar is just a no-brainer freebie. Knowing I saved myself that little extra bit makes me feel that much better about those extra fries I couldn’t help myself from eating…
