We decided to sit down and interview University of Kansas Jayhawks Super Fan, Zach, and get some insight into what it takes to be a stand out fan in Kansas.

HF: How long have you been a KU fan?

ZW: I have been a KU fan since 2005 when I was accepted there for college.

HF: Why KU?

ZW: KU is my alma matter and basketball was created there.

HF: Which sport is your favorite?

ZW: Basketball.

HF: How many games do you watch a year?

ZW: I haven’t missed one game since early 2005.

HF: What do you think makes the KU organization so unique?

ZW: It’s the birthplace of basketball and ESPN and other publications call it the best place to watch a college basketball game.

HF: Tell us about your experience watching a game.

ZW: From the moment you walk into Allen Fieldhouse you can feel the history and significance of where you are standing. You know by the depictions of past and present heroes all over the walls that you are on hallowed ground. When you make it to your seat, you are standing the entire game, screaming as loud as you can for as long as you can. [You’re] jumping, singing and chanting with all of your friends and fellow Jayhawks supporters in unison. The speakers are so loud that you can’t hear the person next to you. When the horn sounds and the game is over, you feel as if you have left it all out on the court, without ever actually playing a single minute.

HF: Who is your favorite KU player of all time & why?

ZW: Mario Chalmers. He once made fun of me in college because I was wearing short soccer shorts in the gym, but he also made the game-tying shot that allowed me to celebrate a national championship while I was a junior in college in 2008.

HF: How many players have you met?

ZW: 10–12 players.

HF: What is your favorite KU moment of all time?

ZW: Mario’s Miracle Shot.

Stay tuned for more Hungry Fan® Super Fans weekly!
