They say that imitation is the best form of flattery, and we couldn’t agree more. One of the many things that The Hungry Fan® takes pride in is its healthy takes on “sportsfood” — food that you can munch on at your favorite sports games without worrying about nasty things like bad fat and calories! Most of the time, we end up content with eating junk like potato chips and deep-fried hotdogs while watching our favorite sporting events, and these can seriously damage us in the long run!

Hungry Fans, however, can make sure that they’re not overeating through a variety of ways — by making sure they follow the “healthy takes on” recipes from The Hungry Fan®, learning about food, and keeping track of calories! Here are some (other) great apps that can help you do all three:

Epicurious

Epicurious is one of the top food magazines in the world, and it has an app that offers guides on making healthy dishes and snacks. It also has a neat recipe suggestions feature on the front page in case you’re having a hard time deciding what food to make. One of the key features of Epicurious is its search option that allows users to restrict their results by different dietary restrictions. So whether you’re a vegan, lactose intolerant, or someone who needs to stay away from carbohydrates, this app can help you make researching easy.

Calorie Counter

Staying fit means keeping the calorie intake just right every day. As the app’s name suggests, Calorie Counter helps users keep track of how many calories they’ve consumed throughout the day. This app is perfect in times when you think that you’ve eaten a lot and decide to work out to lose the extra fat.

Easy Eater

Easy Eater is an app that encourages kids to eat healthy food. Similar to how parents hide broccoli and peas in pasta, this app is a good way to teach them early on how to make healthy choices in a creative manner. Easy Eater rewards kids for “checking in” the foods they’ve eaten at dinner or as a snack, giving them gold stars when they’ve eaten nutritious food. The gold stars can be used to redeem free toys or trips, so it’s a great way to encourage kids to eat nothing but the healthiest food. Easy Eater may have simple graphics, but it performs slowly on first-generation smartphones. Make sure to use a decent phone with at least a dual-core processor in running this. Mobile gaming provider Pocket Fruity recommends using the iPhone 4 for games that require more processing power for graphics so using subsequent models of Apple phones should be fine with the game.

Fooducate

Just because a food label says “100% natural” doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s good for you. In fact, food labels and nutritional facts are sometimes made in order to confuse consumers. Thankfully, Fooducate provides users unbiased information about the products you can buy at stores so you can make better food choices. The app provides information about the ingredients and health value of cereals, canned soups, and granola bars, and many others.
