The Best Vegan Restaurants Around the World: #1 Minh Hien in Hoi An, Vietnam

“The Best Vegan Restaurants Around the World” is a series that introduces the best international cuisine for vegans or people who want to try more vegan dishes.

Choosing what restaurant would be #1 in this series was easy. My favorite restaurant in the entire world is in the small, seaside town of Hoi An located right in the middle of Vietnam.

Famous for its historic Ancient Town — which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — the relaxing, small-town atmosphere of Hoi An is a welcome break from bustling Ho Chi Minh City.

Due to mental health issues and dealing with the beginnings of a rough sobriety journey, my trip to Hoi An was not as peaceful as I would have liked it to be.

Despite being at war with my mental demons the entire trip, I still had good moments. My favorite memory was eating at an incredible vegetarian restaurant called Minh Hien.

It’s typical in Asia for “vegetarian” and “vegan” to be used interchangeably. I see it all the time here in Thailand. I emailed the restaurant to ask if they are fully vegan and here is what they said:
