See Something, Say Something
Do Something

Conversating with TED last week was the little bit of yearly inspiration my brain was in need of. Inviting me to take the time to examine myself in the wrong and celebrate myself in the right.
TED told me a story about when he was a bystander who should have been a participant, protector, friend. See something, say something, do something. Teaching of the responsibility of awareness. Once you have knowledge of a problem the responsibility is on you to do something about it. No turning the other cheek or looking the other way. Identifying a pride in the team I helped to build that embodies this principle constantly. Designers who examine copy like they wrote it, align with business objectives like their name is on the title, and feel no fear in stopping a project in the 12th hour to go back and make it right.
Also understanding how I’ve failed to embody that spirit in my life. When she told me of problems and I couldn’t muster the backbone to fix them. Letting things fall apart, lights go dark, rings losing heart.
The beauty of conversing with TED is that every lesson seems to come out of left field. The point he tries to make doesn’t speak directly to you but slowly creeps it’s way into your ear and slowly rings an alarm bell you can’t ignore. An awareness campaign. Will you take responsibility and answer the call?
