Trying not to break the cycle
Habits, routines and auto-pilot

If I did it once I did it a million times. Over and over. Until the memories of what and why to do it take up residence in my muscles. I’m a creature of habit.
Waking and sleeping at the same times, following the same routes on my daily commute, even starting my work with the exact same routine every day. Following a habit creates an easy way to free up brain power to focus on other pressing matters. Putting the plane on auto-pilot allows me the freedom to chat up that cute stewardess and break into a bag of airline pretzels.
I don’t take a lot of time off or take vacations, so even breaking my rhythm for fun or relaxation makes it difficult to slide back into the groove of everyday life. Taking time off during this past holiday season has brought me to this current place of tardiness.
A place where it’s been too long since we last spoke, too long since I’ve shared, and too long since I’ve nestled my words into the groove of this platform. For this, I apologize. I pray that your streaks remain continuous and your routines fruitful. Don’t grow up to be like me.
